Join us for a celebratory reception and preview, and the opportunity to meet and mingle with speakers and guests from the concurrent international symposium, Encountering the Sacred Image. The evening’s events will include opening remarks by Lutz Rickelt, Director at the Ikonen-Museum Recklinghausen, and Elliot Mackin, Curator at the Icon Museum and Study Center.
On view for the first time in the United States, the icons in this exhibition are rare treasures from the Ikonen-Museum Recklinghausen, the most important museum collection of icons in Western Europe. Light from the East follows the twin branches of Greek and Russian icon painting back in time 500 years from the outbreak of the Russian Revolution in 1917 to the Fall of Constantinople in 1453.
