The Icon Museum is pleased to offer an 8-Day icon painting workshop with Belarusian iconographer Ekaterina Daineko, instructor and Director of the Art Program at the Icon Institute in St. Tikhon’s Monastery. Ekaterina is classically trained in Europe and Belarus, with a strong academic foundation in painting and drawing.

For Ekaterina, icon painting is not decorative—it is a language. She believes that icons are meant to reflect heavenly light and the beauty of the divine world. But this beauty does not appear by intuition alone.

As a teacher, Ekaterina emphasizes classical standards and harmony, guiding her students through rigorous foundational work. Her goal is not speed or stylistic shortcuts, but professional mastery—the kind that enables spiritual expression rather than superficiality.

Ekaterina is deeply committed to re-introducing icon painting in the West as a serious, demanding art form, not a hobby or a craft. Through discipline, tradition, and care for beauty, she sees sacred art as capable of healing, clarifying, and orienting the human heart.

The course is limited to 10 students ensuring an exclusive highly focused learning environment targeted to all skill-levels using traditional egg tempera on wood panels, a historic technique that demands precision, patience, and deep material knowledge. Students must supply their own brushes; all other materials will be provided.
