George Kordis: A Contemporary Iconographer features the vibrant, modern iconography of Athens-based master artist George Kordis, an internationally acclaimed leader in the contemporary revival of Byzantine icon art. Join us in celebrating the opening of this pop-up exhibition alongside the artist, his icon students, and fellow members.
This intimate presentation explores how Kordis uses soft, cool-toned colors and flowing forms to bring sacred stories to life. His work invites viewers into each scene, blurring the line between the divine and the everyday. Through color and composition, Kordis draws the viewer into the narrative, making space for reflection, connection, and presence.
Dr. Kordis, a globally recognized artist and master iconographer, is a prolific author, teacher, and Byzantine art scholar celebrated as a world leader in the contemporary revival of Byzantine iconography. With numerous wall-painting commissions adorning churches and cathedrals across the globe and an impressive exhibition history in European museums and galleries, this marks the first time his icons will be showcased in an American museum. This workshop, coupled with an exhibition, artist talk, and screening, presents an extraordinary opportunity for art enthusiasts and students to learn directly from Dr. Kordis within the United States.
