Farewell to the Lankton Codex and First Viewing of a Carved Icon

July 30 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Among the many treasures held by our museum is a hand-written copy of the Orthodox classic, “The Ladder of Divine Ascent“. It was made in 1837 by a Russian Monk named Joseph as a spiritual exercise. In 2010 the Codex resurfaced in a small book shop in Finland and was purchased for our collection as a way to contextualize our Saint John Climacus icons. From time to time old books need to be closed and placed in storage to rest their spines. Museum Curator, Elliot Mackin, invites you to bid farewell to the Lankton Codex with a special gallery talk after which he will install a small, beautifully carved, icon of the Mother of God Hodegitria.
