SUMMARY:Hybrid Contemporary Russian Literature Book Group
DESCRIPTION:New members are always welcome. You can join in person or via Zoom. \nThis month’s book is People and Trees: A Trilogy by Akram Aylisli. \nPeople and Trees is a collection of three novellas and a short story that chronicles life in a rural Azerbaijani village during and after World War II\, focusing on the impact of Soviet collectivization and war on traditional society through the eyes of a young boy\, Sadyk\, and his aunt\, Medina. The book explores themes of cultural change\, loss\, and resilience\, blending folklore with the harsh realities of the era\, and is considered a significant work in Azerbaijani literature.  \nThe trilogy\, originally written in Azerbaijani and later translated into Russian in the 1970s\, was translated from the Russian text into English for this edition. \nPlease contact a.farwell@iconmuseum.org if you would like to join. \n
