DESCRIPTION:Enjoy free admission thanks to the Highland Street Foundation! \nAugust Adventures returns! 31 days\, 31 events\, 100% FREE! August Adventures 2025 provides access and opportunities to new and old partners highlighting the geographical and cultural diversity of the Massachusetts arts and culture community. \nDuring your museum visit\, don’t forget our all-ages activities station featuring the following:\n\nWriting in Color\nExplore the symbolism of colors used in icons and the importance of getting the tone and color exactly right. Experiment with creating colors and tones using a paint similar to what is used by iconographers\, using gum arabic and pigments; participants will be encouraged to make different tones and create a monochromatic painting that conveys an emotion.\n\nThe Art of Illumination\nLearn about the beautiful lettering found in illuminated manuscripts and some icons. Using templates and examples on hand\, explore basic lettering styles and create illuminated letters. Participants will be encouraged to be creative and make an illuminated letter that represents their unique personality.\n\nStaff will be on hand to guide you through the creative process of the projects and to explore how they connect with our collection.
